About Verucchio

Perched high on a hilltop, the town of Verucchio has been the home of Esperienza’s Italian language immersion program since 2022. Since then, its kind and generous residents, shopkeepers and other locals have welcomed our students with open arms.

Verucchio's location offers a magnet for a variety of artists - painters, photographers, writers, musicians and others - all of whom appreciate the peace and tranquility of the town. Verucchio is a place where you can slow down and connect with others, or just with yourself.

With its privileged position offering strategic views of the surrounding countryside, the history of Verucchio dates back to the Bronze Age. The name of the town derives from the words “vero occhio” (or “true eye”). Once you experience its panoramic views, stretching from the Adriatic coast to the east, to the verdant hills of the Marecchia valley to the west, you’ll understand why.

The Rocca del Sasso, an imposing fortress that overlooks the entire valley, anchors the village. Built over different eras, it takes you back in time, surrounded by legends of those who shaped Verucchio’s history, including the Malatesta family dynasty of the 1400s. And yet, the village's history goes even further back to the Villanovan civilization of the area, with fascinating artifacts that can be discovered in the local Archaeological Museum.

We loved the breathtaking village of Verucchio and the tranquility it offered. We could repeat this trip annually!
